Fidelity have supported the University of Essex to achieve its ranking in the top 20 for student satisfaction, amongst mainstream English universities (following the National Student Survey, 2011) by providing tailored hospitality and retail epos systems to the union since 2002.

The bustling campuses in Colchester, Loughton and Southend allow a fully involved student life. Having services and facilities within easy reach lets students take every opportunity to try new experiences and pursue their interests, while enjoying a world‐class education.

They have one of the most active students' unions in the country, numerous clubs and societies, extensive arts facilities including a theatre on each campus and award‐winning accommodation. They are also investing more than £200 million in our facilities and have a uniquely international outlook and each year welcome more than 11,700 students from more than 130 countries.

Fidelity have worked closely with the university & students' union and after being awarded a recent tender have installed a third generation full system upgrade of software and a total of 27 new EPOS terminals complemented by magnetic card readers, Chip and Pin terminals and associated hardware in both hospitality and retail.

The retail element consists of retail blades with pole mounted touch screen monitors, scanners, printers and chip & pin terminals. This layout creates a clear and tidy retail counter which enables efficient, quick customer service. The back office tasks are also facilitated through the integration of HHT stock re‐ordering terminals, a weighing scale and label printing system.

The hospitality venues use 16 touch screen terminals which are linked to two kitchen monitors for efficient food order processing. A mobile EPoS machine has also been configured for use when outdoor events take place. All of the touch screens operate Fidelity's Gpos software which has been configured to provide a quick, easy to use consistent operating system across all of the outlets. These are all linked into Fidelity's Total Control Premier back office software which enables the efficient completion of everyday management tasks and a clear view of all KPI's.

Another boost to performance has been the integration of a Student Loyalty Card Scheme which rewards customers for their purchases in campus outlets. Also students purchase data is captured with the swipe of their card and then held within Fidelity's Instant Loyalty software which enables analysis of students purchase behaviour and the implementation of targeted promotional campaigns to drive additional purchases.
